I hate to give you bad news, but if she or you (or anyone) have to defend yourselves in your home you are looking at being sued. Don't want to give legal advice on this board, but KS has some different laws than TX or even OK. Give me a call and we can talk about that.
Yeah, I remember you telling me about that, thing is, I can live with bieng sued for everything I got, they will get about $50 out of me lol. But if they want to put the dog down for biting an intruder, I just couldn't handle that.
He looks like a cupcake to me Duane. I like rots, they are self assured and don't usually have to go around "acting" like the tough guy. I used to help my daughter out occasionally when she managed a boarding kennel and the rots were easy to walk and didn't keep pulling or act goofy like some dogs.
He is one of the best dogs I have ever seen, he listens well, isn't a real hyper dog unless he doesn't get his evning walk. He will play VERY rough with me but he is real gentle with the wife and kids. His only downfall is he don't reallize his size and thinks he is a little lap dog like the rest and wants to curl up in my lap and watch TV with me. He tries to play with the little dogs but they are too scared of him lol.
FordNut1985- The best thing that you can do for your family is to educate them about guns. The kids that end up shooting themselves are the ones that are curious about something that they know nothing about. You've got to put the time in to train not only your wife, but also your kids about firearms. Hell, in the early 80's- 90's, I didn't know what a gun safe was, my parents used to keep all the guns openly displayed in the house, because it wasn't a big deal, I knew I'd get beat if I ever did something stupid. Also, anyone can sue anyone else for anything these days, don't be afraid to be sued, I'm sure you'd rather have your wife alive and unharmed then to worry about being sued. As for caliber choice, let her choose what feels comfortable to her. If she can't hit the target with a .45 because she is nervous about the recoil, then it doesn't matter how many rounds she launches downrange. By the way just so you and everyone else on this sight knows, as for caliber, it doesn't matter what you shoot the bad guy with, if the shot placement is off, it's just not going to work. As for caliber size, ponder this, The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office still carries, and has for over 18 years the 9mm. If you put the right rounds in it it will get the job done.
You are thinking gard dog training. totally different. this type teaches to protect people not property. again is defensive. they are taught not to chase. and only to deter agression.
You know, a good aluminum baseball bat to the nards usually deters them quite well, perhaps you should teach your family baseball instead.. Gun shots are so permenant..
If you make it to KC go to the The Bullet Hole (913-432-0050) just off of Metcalf and (63rd st)Shawnee Mission Parkway. You can rent handguns and shoot right there at there indoor range. ID, ammo, hearing protection, shooting glasses, and a few dollars and your ready to shoot. Lane fee is around $10 and to rent a gun is around $5. I have alot of friends in law enforcement and many of them carry 9mm off duty and for home defense. I was not a big believer in the 9mm, but after shooting I strongly believe that a 9mm with a proper personal defense load will bring down a threat. I have had a 40cal, 357 sig, and 45 all very nice and have the own feel. The 9mm Glock 19 holds 15 + 1 and is a nice compact size. You can even get other clips that hold 17/19/33. Yeah that's right 33 rounds in a handgun. It put a smile on my face. You need to find a gun that has a natural feel and point of aim. Then it comes down to how well you shoot that gun. Many choices/options. The main reason I like a Glock is the simple straight forward handling of the gun. The first shot is the same as the last shot. Good luck and if you make it to KC to shoot let me know. I'm always up for shooting a few rounds down range.
