Just got my 1997 E150 6 cylinder back from the dealer after having the intake manifold gasket replaced, and now it loses oil pressure when idling. Oil pressure is OK at when driving. Engine also sounds like a belt is slipping when idling. Does anyone know what drives the oil pump on the van? Is it the serpentine belt or electric pump?
Your oil pump is ran by a gear on the distributor shaft that runs off of the cam or cams.
The belt could be squeaking because of oil or something on it from the work performed. just spray it with the engine running with armor-all if the squeaking comes back change the belt.
Why the pressure is low while at a idle could be the pressure switch...have it changed.
I would really think twice about squirting Armor-All on a belt as slick as that stuff is. A little water spritz would stop the squeek at idle temporarily.
Check and make sure the wire connection to the sending unit is clean and tight.
