I have a 1988 f-250 4x4 with a 7.3 litre diesel. Does it have a dana 44 or spicer 50 front axle in it? If anyone knows, please e-mail me at tgstepp@yahoo.com. I would welcome any info. Thank you!
niether, probably the dana 50 being a diesel. If it's an extended cab i'm 99% positive its the dana 50, if its a regular cab I guess it could be the dana 44 but being a diesel.
ok let me try to word this right, but I'm sure some one else will step in, the front hubs on the 44 are smaller then the hub holes in the wheel. Were as the dana 50 hubs are the same the whole way out, there just as big as the hub holes in the wheel.
If you do a search for dana 50 or dana 44 you will gain alot of valueable information also.

Dana and spicer are same company, real name is dana spicer or spicer dana or somethin like that everyone just says dana. and it is most likely a 50 if you have the diesel.
yup, just felt like being a pain, i forget who else is under the name now but i believe theres a couple of other well known names under the same parent company. I'm pretty sure its spicer dana. I'de like say eaton is under that parent company too but dont quote me on it. I was on there tech website a few months ago but i just dont remember right now.
the reg cab diesels DO come with the dana 44 - I have personally owned (2) like that ...I believe most - if not all ext cab and crews come with dana 50
ez to tell the diff - the dana 50 hub fill the hole in the wheel and has bigger locking hubs....the dana 44 has small hubs like a 1/2 ton
