I recently changed the battery and alternator, both were tested and the battery was not holding a charge and the alternator with a load on it only read around 12V. I was test driving the vehicle (sorry 2004 F 250 Super Duty 5.4L) and the instrument gauges were going crazy along with the radio went off and on. I took it home and was letting it idle, it was idling fine but I reved the engine to around 2500 the dash lights got brighter, radio turned off and on the tach and speedometer pegged out along with gas, oil and temp gauges, also battery light came on and off and ABS light came on. You could also hear a clicking sound while all of this was going on. I know now that when I was driving the vehicle it only happened at around 2500 RPMs. What is the problem? PLEASE HELP!!
Checked all the connections today and all seem fine. Had a friend hook a computer toit and everything also checked out. So we tested the alternator and when you get the truck to 2500 rpms, the alternator jumps to 18V and then to zero then back to normal. So I guess the alternator is bad. Parts place is getting me a new one.
Once on my 07 my battery went completely dead while installing my stereo. I had the doors open and it just ran down. I jumped it with a charger the the instrument panel started going crazy.

Sounds like the internal regulator is bad. Those things happen...
I changed to alternator out yesterday (getting to be a pro at-- did it less than 5 minutes) and now my truck is running great! Thanks for the help. Would have never thought a brand new part would be defective.
