I have a 2001 F350, SWR, 4x4 with lock outs. I am getting a noise on the left front(heard from drivers side) it sound like a grind when I am running between 20 to 60 miles per hour. When I am not excelerating I very faintly hear it. I have had it checked and they say my bearing are good and the ball joints are only about 1 year old. It is not stuck in 4 wheel drive.
The last Mechanic I talked to that checked it say's he thinks its the rear ring and pinion but doesnt know for sure, well I don't want to shell out 1200 bucks on a I'm not sure. Any Idea's
I tried that, hubs locked not in 4 wheel, Ive tried hubs locked in 4 wheel, I even looked under the truck while my wife rolled it back and forth to make sure 1 side was not locked in.
No the noise was around before the brake job(not as noisy) at that time. brake job was new pads and rotors and I had 1 locking hub replaced on left side. but I was getting the noise before that. I thought for sure it was a bearing but my Mechanic checked and said no. he put it on a rack and run it up to 50 mph and said he heard a little noise coming from rear end but was not to concerned for the year of the truck.
You really don't notice it until you excell. once you let off the sound almost goes away.
