Ok, the IP in my 6.9 went out last summer and the truck is just sitting in the driveway rottin away. I am wondering if I should rebuild the whole motor, new pistons, bearings, gaskets etc. or if I should do an engine swap with either a 460 or a BBC. Diesel is now at just about $4.00 a gallon here in houston so I'm leaning towards a gas motor. Are there any rebuild kits out there for the 6.9? and if I go with a BBC how hard would it be to fit the motor and tranny in a ford truck.
No BBChevs's lest the Ford gods look upon that as sacrilege and will strike you down.
I'd say replace the injector pump, put a new set of injectors on it and drive. For the time and expense of swapping to a gas engine, you're not going to save any money. Especially when you consider that a 460 is going to get less than 10 mpg even properly tuned.
