Red face Explorer questions

Hi Everyone,

Me and the financee are stumped about Explorer frames. I have a 1998 that I got into an accident with but the body is in excellent condition. The only solution that I have is to find a new frame but we're not sure if they changed the design when Ford changed the body style in 1995. He knows his trucks but isn't sure about the explorers. Can someone please give me some insight? I'm going a little nuts as I hurt my wheels and I don't have the heart to part it out or send it to scrap. Thanks a bunch!!!!

Cheers,

Jenny

Hi Jenny,
You'll get a quicker response if ask on the explorer forum,
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum32/

Somebody there will know for sure.
Curious,...what kind of accident damages the frame but leave the body intact??

The frames changed quite a bit in 95. The Explorers went from the twin i-beam suspension to conventional control arm suspension, and the tie-rods moved from front to the back of the front axles.

Learned this from a guy who almost bought my 93 to replace the front suspension in his wife's 95 that got torn out. He was at my place with the car trailer before we realized there was a difference.

BTW Jenny, keep your eyes open on kijiji and other classifieds, I've seen 95-97ish Explorers selling for $4-500 for parts.

I'm a bit of a newbie here so I'll appreciate any advice I can get!
As for moving the post, it's ok ... Chad, thanks, for the frame insight. I know now what I'm on the hunt for.

Hi Frank... How I didn't hurt the body (or myself for that matter), I have no idea!!
My truck hit some black ice and I ended up not only jumping the curb but taking out a nice size concrete flower pot as well. Needless to say that my back tires were still on the median and this pot was underneath my front end. I'm not sure if the fiancee took any pictures but if he did, I'll post them. The funny thing is that it still runs. I'll need to replace the frame, the front end and the condenser...plus the bumper, grille and the head light doors. Looking back, if it was a funny sight to see.

Cheers! and thank you!
