Starting problems

Hi! I am new to this so here goes. I have a 2005 F250 Diesel 6.0. First diesel truck so I am lost on what is up with it. Nine months ago it started to get slow at starting. Then one day just would not start. Of course once at the dealer it did not do anything out of the norm. So they just changed my fuel filters. Seemed fine until a month ago. This time be it hot or cold it would not start at times with the first crank. I would wait 15 seconds and then it would. So back to the dealer. So far in the last week it has been there three times. They have put on a new alternator, 2 batteries, supposely did some w/ computer. Well today I am back because it did it again. Everything else about the truck seems fine. Does not seem to have lost any power and runs great once started. So I am so lost and I think the guys at the dealership r too??? It has only happen to them on 2 occassions. HELP!!!!!! Thanks!!!!

The coupler fitting off the high pressure oil pump is leaking, this will not let enough pressure to build during cranking to allow the injectors to work. a very common problen on the 05's, I'm suprised the dealer has not nailed this the first time, keep us informed on how you make out and welcome to fte.

Hey sorry it has taken me a while to get back to your reply. I took it in on Monday of course and called them Tuesday morning to tell them what you had said. Funny thing was I even left it up on the dash of the truck so if they forgot. Well I picked up my truck yesterday (24th). They told me that they changed the ICP (injector control pressure senor). So I was like well okay. So I was gone 2 hours from there and of course it did it again. This time I got it back to them and then it would not fire for nothing at least they could hook up the computer to it. So my husband called today about it. They told him that they finally did what you told me. So my husband ask them isn't that the same thing my wife ask you about? So I pray that will work. I am suppose to get it back tomorrow. So as usually since I live 30 miles away from them I will spend a couple hours there to see if it acts up. Thanks so much for your help. It's getting old finding time to travel 60 miles each time, and paying for gas.

Toolman-

Is there a "sign" or way to check to see if the hpop is leaking like you say? I too have an '05 that is new to me and i've noticed within the last week or so it's taking longer to crank regardless of air temp or how long it had been running prior to trying to start again. It definitely is not cranking as fast as it did when i first bought it over a month ago........thanks!

Trishway, if they service the fitting it will be fixed. rhodeisland, a leaking hpop fitting should not effect crank speed [ starter rpm] but if your issue is cranking and no start at times then the hpop fitting is the most likely cause.

Thanks toolman, i haven't had any 'no starts' yet, like i said before i've started to notice within the last week or so that the cranking time is getting longer on occasion and i didn't know if there was any giveaways or signs to look for. It's not every start so it caught my attention.....i just don't want to end up turning the key and get nothin!!

Trish i hope your problems are over! The help and info on this forum is extremely helpful, i've learned a ton already.

Trishway now is a good time to find a dealer.I am a bricklayer and I would have bet on the hpop fitting. The fact that the tech couldn't figure that out on an 05 is sad.
