making head way
I had a horible rattle and found out why, not only was the radiator support rotted right thru, about 80% of the little hidden bolts were less then hand tight. of course they couldn't have been any of the ones i needed to remove.... lol I've got another radiator support that needs alittle more welding and sheet metal work and that should be good to go. while i'm in there i'm gonna do, shocks, passenger side ball joints, tie rod(drivers done about 4 months ago, by me) rubber brake lines and front brakes. strip the frame and POR15, or the like. i'm also going to look into building an exhaust, maybe a header if i can find one cheap enough, the factory manifold has been hacked up so, i've gotta either weld on new flanges or get a new down tube/cat assembly which is 300 bucks anyways.Well again, i hope to get some pics up tommorow, but in the mean time, if anyone has any idea's, or comments, do it up.
How's your welding improving?
I did the cold galvanize thing when I had the rad support up off the frame.
Looking foward to seeing your gallery.
Sounds like you're making a lot of progress
Not to hijack but,
Down in my corner of the state, Lil Red's got her heart transplant.
I'm still working on resolving an ignition timing issue.
Pic's on my Flickr.
Hey jim, i haven't done much welding recently.... It looks like today may be the last day I get to do any work for a while, were going to south carolina for 10 days leaving friday and i got a luandry list of stuff to do before then.... how'd that cold galvanize work out?
good hear about the transplant! you running another 460?

before shot

beautiful old radiator support!

The heart of the beast! i want to repaint the side cover black and replace the valve cover with one of the chrome ones
the fenders and hood are in pretty good shape
think it might need shocks?
and heres the replacement, as you can see it needed some patch work also but its no where near as bad, and it was free, so i get some welding pratice out of it, and if it dont work out, all well, cost me alittle time.

You better watch the posting rules. Parts pics should be in a hidden gallery.

The spray galvinize seems to be holding up, but it's only been a few years.
Yes....another 460,

WTH am I thinking????
That I'm broke and can't afford a new: flywheel, bellhousing, accessories, oilpan, motor perches ect.. and I need to do it ASAP and get back to work.
So A re-man longblock, RV cam, true roller timing set straight up, and Performer manifold. got tossed in the mix.
Think I went through over $100 worth of Gunk, Carb and Electrical cleaner, undercoat and spray bombs for the motor, manifolds, accessorys, and frame.
Did the steering box while I was in there. Much easier to hold that chunk, and it did have a leaky pitman seal, @ 315k it was probably time.
Now I have issues with the vacuum advance even though I replaced all the smog to stock. It's giving me something over 30* on top of whatever static and mechanical I have dialed in. Waiting for a Comp adjustable advance kit to arrive from Summit, hopefully then I can drive it without hammering the hell out of my new motor.

Lots of stupid photos detailing emission hookups and such.....because I'm starting to have those "senior moments"

Enjoy your Vacation!
If I didn't I'd need to get my head examined for putting so much time and money into an old beater.
The one thing I found (other than surface rust) was that I ended up replacing a lot of rubber that looked ok but was hard and brittle. I also stripped and cleaned up a bunch of wiring harness, then resleeving it w/ split loom and tiny zipties.
My mother lives in Waterbury, and my brother in Northford. That's about as close as I get to Southington. I do have a friend in Rocky Hill....
But a red pickup is just about as common as a white van.
