Getting Old

Ok Folks, For those of us driving 99-03 SD's w/ the 7.3.

Our accumulated mileage is likely creeping into the 55-60K or, greater range for most everyone. Our 7.3's are starting to show there collective age - I'd like to start a thread describing the common 65K+ mile problems - oil leaks, trans troubles, failures etc. Try to stick to the bigger stuff and stay away from wear items like brakes & batteries.

This might make it easier to find what you need to fix it in a pinch - like when the truck's broke. Some items are rare or unique but I'd bet there are 4-6 items that by now nearly everybody has either repaired or replaced.

Be nice to have the list & the approximate mileage it happened at for the newer 02's & 03's owners to reference.

To start the list using my 00 F250:

Wiper Motor @ 38K (Part of a Recall)
Waterpump @ 53K
Balljoints @ 77K
GP Relay @ 39k & 68K
CPS(s) @ 33K & 55K

Not too bad but I'll be adding a couple of more soon:

Diff Housing Cover Rear - Soon, probably by 80K - starting to 'weep' oil through the rust.
Oil leak - @ 79K - I'm still looking for the source - suspect turbo pedestal o-rings.

DG

Ball joints and tie rod end at approximately 70K. They had been bad for longer than that but it took an inspection station failing it after I bought it for the dealer to replace them.

Ditto for me, but not until 120K - didn't have the truck prior to 90K so don't know if this was the first replacement or not. Also replaced the GPR around the same mileage (upgraded to the Stancor unit).

I'm at 81,000 miles and so far water pump,5 brake calipers, 4 on the rear axle and parking brake shoes, one GPR, one CPS, one EPS & exhaust system rotted out, and looks like I'll need to replace the original batteries soon, they are leaking around the post.

Just had the CPS changed for the recall at 83k, at 85k now. I have owned it since 33k not sure if it had anything done before that.

One CPS (have not had the recall done yet if it ain't broke don't fix)

I have a oil leak that I believe is coming from the pedestal which I will fix as soon as I can start riding my HD.

I am on my 3rd CPS. 1st was under warranty.
3rd Throttle pedal position sensor. Last week. 1st under warranty
Water pump around 150K
Both right side ball joints and steering stabilizer at about 200K.
UVCH came loose @ 220K, I just re-plugged it.
Transmission last month. Replaced with re-man w/warranty.
All things considered, not too bad for danged near a quarter of a million miles.

142k on the ticker, all by me.
CPS @ 101k
Waterpump @ 104K
EBPV stuck @107
Ball Joints @ 110k
IPR and ICP @ 115K
I'm sure there are more like brakes and filters, and one set of batteries, but for the most part, this is it. Nothing under warr. at all, other than an oil leak they never saw.
I know that I need to replace some steering linkages soon and I need to upgrade my brake rotors and pads. I do need air bags because of weaker rear springs, but, I look forward to the next 142K.
