There’s never a dull moment! The kids love “working” on them with me, too. I’m passing the curse on to them!!

are those marmon-herrington axles under the original frame or?

The 6 lugs are throwing me off from being an "F-550" and the frame looks original too.

Rockwell rear, Dana 60 closed knuckle front. The cab is a 79. It's different for sure.

The more I research, the front axle is NOT Ford, its an International Harvester 2 ton front. IHC DANA 70. Any help would be appreciated.

i was gonna say that's a D70 front, that's a super beefy front axle. What transfer case? All fords, at least this era, had the front diff pumpkin on the drivers side. That's either an aftermarket conversion or something someone cobbled together at some point, based on the quality of the front, axle side, shock mount I'm guessing it's home built. I also don't think there was a F550 or any FX50 variant over a 350 during these years, after the F350 i thought it went to F600? According to Wiki the F500 was discontinued after '77. I'm not really that knowledgeable on the bigger chassis trucks, most of my knowledge on them is just from trying to find a dashboard for one.

Either way it's still a cool truck. I love any SCab with a flatbed/dump body/etc.

Runner and driver, not quite on the road yet. Hard to think about how much time and money it took to get it to this point.

Thanks for that. My best friends Dad ordered it new in 79. My old man got a new 79 Chev at the same, but that's long gone. Here's start and done on the tear down. Hope to have it on the highway this fall.

1978 F350 Super Cab Serial Number/Warranty Plate Decode

Trying to figure out what was stock on this 1978 F350 Super Cab and what was modified and attempt to get back to stock. The serial number is: X35JKCBXXXX and how it stands right now it is an F350 2wd "dually" (with spacers), long bed, however a 1985 bed. It does appear to be the correct Dana 70 rear, 460 cid, auto transmission, and date serial is the appropriate range, but according to the model code X359 for 1978-1979 this should indicate a 4wd, where that model code in 1977 only was a 2wd.

Also 75.9% of the 1978 F350 models were duallys (I know it's said that no 1973-1979 F series trucks were dually, but maybe that only applies to F250 and lower?
