Ok - one more on the Duraspark install. The harness we have ('76 or '77) is about twice as long as we need. Can I butt-splice this to reduce the length or would it be best to leave it alone. I will leave a little extra to move the coil to the front of the block some day and still cut out 2 feet or so..
Thank you!
Butt splices are not very pretty. I would get some decent sized split loom, fold the wire back on itself (double it up to get rid of the length) tape it in a couple places to hold it, and then insert it in the split loom. If you really want to cut the wires, then I would solder them and then tape or shrink wrap the wire.
Franklin2,
Thanks for posting your schematics on the duraspark wiring! Even though I had one wire wrong, 2 days to chase, we got it started once we moved it to the correct position (start relay - "S" to "I")! This evening we'll get it timed, wires organized and bundled and then out for a run! It will be interesting to see if the timing is still jumping around, probably the timing gears, but at least we're one step closer! Thanks again!!
