engine prep

I bought a 240 inline 6 to put in my 65 f-100. After rebuild i was told it was driven for about 3 years and then it sat for about 3 years. Any ideas what i should do to it before i stick it in. ill probably do a quick paint job and change oil pan gasket and valve cocer. Any other ideas why i have it on the stand. this dont need to be mint. Thanks Jeff

Pull the distributor and spin the oil pump, that will put some oil to the bearings prior to start-up.

I'd add that you might want to pull each plug & put in a little oil & then first turn the engine over by hand. Then do Mike's suggestion.

I'd replace the water pump while it's out, check your timing cover CAREFULLY for cracks. Those are pretty thin and easy to overtorque. Found cracks in mine when I rebuilt my 240.
