You want to take a 66 F100 and make it 4wd correct?
2 options:
1-This is the one you'll probably go with regardless of what anyone tells you.
The cab forward section of the frame on 64-79 2wd trucks are extremely similar. What works for a 79 will also work for a 66. Cut off all the 2wd crap and the big **** crossmember then bolt on the spring buckets radius arm brackets track bar etc on to the 66 frame and weld up a new crossmember.
2- My suggestion.
Find a 67-72 4wd truck and swap the cab/bed over with 0 modification or find a 73-79 4wd truck and swap the cab/bed over with very little cab mount modification
I meant the factory 4wd arms. Youll have to make a bracket where they bolt to the frame. The frame "curves" down farther back then a 4wd. It actually does it between the 2 bolt holes in the factory 4wd bracket.
Cheeto,
I know why you are doing a 2wd to 4wd conversion but I dont know why others would tackle it.
Its a waste of time energy and most importantly money. If you have a truck to swap all the 4wd components off of then guess what...YOU HAVE A 4wd FRAME! Swap you body over and call it done.
I was thinking more along the lines of a solid front axle with leaf springs? Just cause one has many components does not imply one has a donor truck or a frame!
Guess there is easier ways to acomplish what I am looking for. Prolly why there aint jack for info on it.
I have built a more ******* of rig than mentioned above. Its for love of the challenge!
Does a 82 3/4 ton chassis fill the bill on this deal? Neighbor has one for cheap! Still really wanting a 4x4, but stuck in a 2x 66. Any info on this matter would be appreciated.
the frames are entirey different. besides that the 82 would have a ttb front which sucks so youd have to do fab work and a lift to put a solid axle under it so you might as well do the conversion to your frame
I had the LP 44 front out of my '75 F250. That is being swapped out for a 60 as soon as I find one close by, and I'll be doing crossover steering as well.
