Hi guys, just need to know how much the 6.0 engine is able to move about in the chassis? I've just fitted one in my own chassis and there's not much room for it side to side. Would 3/8" be enough?
I would say 3/8" might be a bit tight. But, if you are not towing heavy, perhaps it wont be a problem. I assume you are talking on the sides as the motor torques to the side under load. My truck has several inches, but I bet it moves atleast an inch side to side pulling hard. Probably just bend your inner fenders a bit anyway. Are you also that close to frame rails, that could be more of an issue.....
Thanks Mike. Yeah, it's the frame rails that is a tight fit. I haven't made the inner guards yet so I can make them to suit.
I'm thinking down low on the engine, near the crank, it wouldn't be too bad. At the top of the engine, furthest from the crank, is where most movement would be seen. As it is now, I'll have to grind a bit off the A/C fitting where it bolts on to the compressor, and from the chassis beside that fitting.
3/8' should be sufficient. They don't shift much, as the durometer of rubber on the motor mounts is pretty stiff. Just make sure that whatever it could shift into isn't delicate and it shouldn't be too much of a problem.
Thanks Matt. Man am I pleased to hear from you! Come closer to the time I'll be getting a tuner and tunes from you for sure.
Glad you like my project. Hope you can find the time to read right through and follow along. There's going to be some very unique suspension to come yet, making it very capable offroad.
Yeah the rubber sure seems hard. And they are pre-compressed within the mount too. But then again, over 400kg of engine and heaps of torque will make them look soft.
