I am looking to get a hi output alternater for my truck as the stock 110amp one just does not cut it. I have found a couple but they are all in the 600+ bucks range. any help would be great. Thanks Jason
I have a 230 amp, it ran me $450 bucks and that was under jobber. Powermaster should be able to build you a 200 amp in natural finish for $350-400, one like mine is $650-750 and comes from Metra, through Tsunami Audio but made by HO alternators in IL.
On a side note, high amp alternators produce more heat than a normal one. The coatings put on them to make them look pretty can hold that heat in and cook the bearings. I learned this from having multiple warranty issues with chrome 200 amp chevy alts. Powermaster tried everything, new bearings, different armatures and more, then finally said to only get them in natural (unfinished) and polished. So when choosing, keep heat in mind.
Thanbk for the reply. I will have to look into powermaster and tsunami. I should be able to get the tsunami for a good price as my buddy owns a car audio install shop. Thanks Jason
i have a have pretty power hungry amps in my king ranch with all the options and i don't see my 110amp alternator struggling! i can have the heater full blast, and my sereo bumping like there is no tomorrow and i don't get a single headlight dim!
xoliex, Your amps in the best condition(100% output) draw aprox 65 amps @ 14 volts. Witch you would only see for a split second. my plow motor will draw up to 190 amps @ full load for up to 6 seconds. granted the plow motor does not hardly see full load. But it will draw in excess of 100 amps when the hydraulic fluid is cold. Jason
blowing smoke, wow i didn't know that! thanks for the info!
there are big time bass heads who install 2 alternators in some cars! if you know the name of "STEVE MEADE", on most chevy's they have the ability to install two alternators!

My two JL10W6s running off a JL1000/1 really dim my headlamps. A cap might help for me and the bass hits but not going to do much for a plow guy. Wasn't there a heavy duty alternator option on the F150? Did it only come with a particular package or could it be added alone?
