Save your back, get help when you remove the 90# cast iron intake manifold. You will need to keep track which hole each push rod (and lifters if removed) came out of. They can be different length. The exhaust manifold bolts can be rusted in, start soaking with a good penetrating oil like Krol.

Keep track of the bolt position in the rocker arm post.

When you re-assemble it, use RTV seal for the back and front seals for the intake. The cork are know to leak after a short period of time.

When you get it out start soaking it with Kriol Penetrating oil. May take several days but it should come loose. Use a brass punch to tap on the busted bolt, to help it loosen. Even applying heat to the surrounding area helps too. Just be patient. I have a set of left handed twisted drills I use to drill bolts out with. It help to use a guide plate to keep from walking too.

What ever you do, DO NOT use any air tools to remove the exhaust bolts. You will have half a chance of getting them out with a ratchet, the minute you put air to them it will bust them right off. All the FE heads I have ever removed the bottom exhaust bolts come out fine, its always the top ones I have problems with.

When you go back together, use some good bolt lube on the head bolts, also put some under the washer and bolt head as that is an area of friction as well, if you can not find any at least use motor oil. That will provide a more accurate torque on the bolts. Use anti-seize on the exhaust bolts when you go back in with them.

I've had good luck busting the top row loose just after the engine has been run, while the head is hot.

Another trick is to always try to tighten a rusted bolt before trying to loosen it.
