I am asking a question about my 74 Ford F100. I had some basic things in mind, but I wanted to know how hard (or even if it was possible) to do some conversions. First off, currently it's 2wd. I wantd to put 4wd on it. I also wanted to take it from an F100 to an F350. Is this hard? What would I have to change? I know for the 4wd conversion, I'd have to install a front axle, front leaf springs, transfer case, drive lines, etc. How about the 350 upgrade?
Easier, yes. I know that. But I want a good project. I love the truck I have, and want to make it into just that. I mean, Wyoming, I'm sure I can find the front axle, suspension, leaf spring mounts, drive lines, and t-case at a junk yard for about 2-3 hundred. Then all I need is the 1 ton leaf springs, a different Axle (not sure what ford uses for their 1 ton axles), and I should be set. Right?
Ok well you can do a 4wd conversion. it's not that hard to do as long as you go slow and double check everything. Now as far as the 1 ton thing goes. theres no way to make your F-100 into a f-350. for one the frame is totally different. I thought that there wasn't much difference in the 250 to 350 until i got them side by side with no cab or bed. the 250 was a 78 4x4 and the 350 was a 73 2wd. totaly different trucks. frame is almost twice as large from the front cab mounts back.
So you can do a 2wd to 4wd conversion but no 350 conversion unless you get a frame. This is the best i can help you for now.
