i have a 78 f250 wit a 400 Edelbrock intake and carb i just got the truck 2 weeks ago and i have replaced the gas tank fuel lines fuel filter an pump tune up an pulled the carb and cleaned it my ? is when the truck is n park it will run great but when u put it n gear it spits an backfires some times or just wont have power till u start turning 2000 rpm when u get that high it has out rages power it starts real easy better then my 04 grand am gt the timing is set 10 deg thats where it runs the best what could it be

Well, one of the first things I'd check is the spark plugs.. Check for any corrossion on the plugs, possible oil deposits. Also, be sure to make sure they're gapped correctly. For a 400 of that year, I believe the gap is to be set at .044. Also, you might have done something wrong when you rebuilt the carb. The timing chain it's self might be off a gear, the teeth on the distributor where it connects to the cam shaft might be worn. Pull the distributor and check that. Also, try and look down the hole and see if the teeth on the cam shaft might be slightly worn thus not making a good connection to the distributor. Check the Plug Wires to ensure all are firing correctly by checking for spark. To do that, you pull each plug and wire seperately, plug the spark plug into the wire without it being inside the engine. Place the plug on the valve covers and fire it from up from the starter solenoid and see if the plug sparks. If not, you might have a worn wire or bad spark plug.
