Excursion hitch

I thought I read that the hitch on my 05 X is only rated for 5000lbs. Can you get larger cap. hitch? Looking to tow abt 8-10000lbs.

Get a class V with a weight distribution hitch and you'll have your 10k rating. Most class III hitches are only 5000 weight bearing and 7500 or 8500 weight distributing.

IIRC, the hitch is an intergral part of the structure and nobody makes one of them for the Ex besides Ford. AFAIK, it is about 10000#

Your Ex OEM receiver CAN tow 11,000#'s BUT it needs a WD hitch to do so.

You are right in a sense that the receiver IS rated for 5000#'s in weight CARRYING mode only...

It is rated for 11,000#'s in weight DISTRIBUTION mode with a max tongue of 1250#'s on the '05...

Hope that helps.

BTW...I have an '05 Ex...
