I'm coming to this decision next in bringing back the beast.
Since it's a wood/Home depot truck, I'll go the spraycan route.
Quastions:
1. Any primer color best for laying down under a white (O.E. color) job
2. How does Rustoleum hold up for primer and color?
3. I plan on sandpapering between coats... how long do I wait for drying, and what grit??
4. Clearcoat paint after completed?
I'll be taking off the rubber side moldings, and replacing with some from PepBoys. Need extra adhesive for these?
If its nice an warm probably 24 hours, thats what the guy on the one website did when rolling on the paint, I think he used rustoleum. Its best to let it dry real well, I've had some paints wrinkel up if not completly dry.
Prime white or grey if your painting a light color on top, I think eastwood has a special trigger that you can use on a spray can so it doesn't kill your finger.
good luck with your project wilmac150 ,i am also doing a paintjob on a 1987 bronco soon , i live in nc oxford (just north of durham) where do u live? jesse
May I recommend looking into the roll on paint job? I spraypainted mine, and it took WAY more cans than I thought it would.
That being said, to answer your questions:
I used rustoleum auto primer (gray)
Mine has sat outside all year round for 4 years
Read the can (I think it is 24 hrs)
Definitely clear, or it will fade and chalk.
Thanks for comments. I looked at the "rollon" procedure, and seem like it would take alot of coats. But it has a plus, that it would not be as messy as spraying in a garage.
I'll probably wait until the day before, and decide.............
