When reading the manual , the gauges in the dash are boost, engine temp, tranny temp, fuel, I know the boost and fuel are a given, but the engine/ tranny are not marked and from my reading in the manual they are in the arrangement as I put above. I swear that one time I let the engine warm -5 and the third gauge(tran) was warm and the second (engine) was cold. So I though they had hooked backwards. Then I checked the next time after start up and going down the road and it was the other way around. confused?
It goes boost, oil tem, tranny temp, and fuel. My tranny temp always rises much faster than the oil and both end up slightly to the left of dead center when fully warmed up. I'm in VA so it doesn't get too cold here. Hope this helps.
Mine ends up the same left of dead center. I will have to reread my manual ,I thought the second was water temp , if it is oil temp I suppose its telling you the same thing engine temp.
Was out with the truck today again and watched the gauges. The third one over was first to come up to almost half way and the second hadn't hardy moved . The heater was blowing hot air. My concusion is the second gauge is tranny and the third is engine temp, the engine would have to heat first .
It was probably blowing hot air because you have the electric supplemental cab heater. I have it in my truck and I get heat within a couple of minutes. The second gauge is water temp.
6.4 engine is extremely slow to warm up, in fact manual says it won't warm up to normal operating temp while idling. If outside temp is down the engine will shift to high idle to help warm the engine if it is still in park with foot off brake pedal. 2nd gage is engine 3rd is tranny.
Engine coolant temperature
gauge: Indicates engine coolant
temperature. At normal operating
temperature, the needle will be in
the normal range (between “H” and
“C”). If it enters the red section,
the engine is overheating. Stop
the vehicle as soon as safely
possible, switch off the engine and let the engine cool
Oilburnr mine doesn't have the supplymental heater. Lee3 thats the order how my gauges appear and thats what I figured when I read the manual. It just doesn't make sense to me that 25 outside temp and having traveled 5 to 7 miles at 55mph the tranny temp would almost be normal and the engine temp hardy moved.
