I just acquired a 302 engine. The casting number (located on the right lower side of the block, extreme rear) "drivers side, not the starter side" - is E6 SE BA I have decoded this to be a 86 engine ?? I'm not hung up with the location, but I don't think it's in the correct place? MORE - On the top of the block, at the rear of the manifold sealing area it's stamped GKB 00771 What do I have?
Also this engine is .040 over bore, is this the limit for this engine?
should be above the starter.. look again. you can go .060 some say thats way too much, might be if you pushing it to 500hp, but hey they make the pistons and ring for it.
E6SE is a roller 5.0 block, they were used up into the early 90's. I had a 40 over reman, it ended up splitting the #4 cylinder wall. This was a 1/2" long crack midway in the wall and it did it at 7500 rpms. The numbers behind the intake are the original vehicle's VIN numbers.
Hemieater----the 5.0 roller block casting numbers are cast differently but in the same general location. The flat area where the old numbers were, isn't there on the rollers. If I wasn't so illiterate on this thing, I'd post pics.
Thanks for the information. I was given this engine to replace a 1981 255 CID Ford engine-in a street rod (that information may start some new threads?) I haven't had time to do much more than removing the heads. The engine was rebuilt by a novice and never ran because it was locked up. It has hydraulic lifters now and surfice rust in the cylinders. I hope it can be repaired. If you want me to keep you updated, let me know. Check out my posts in the Ranger section to see what my real problem has been.

This is the 454 I was sorry about. I have fat fingers at times.
