Truck Updates

Hey everyone. Check out my gallery. I got new pics in there of my 73 F250. Pictures of my new Wolo Powerhouse air horns installed, as well as the Shelf-It kit, and other stuff as well. Comments are always welcome as well!

I drove my truck to work and home today, first time I really drove it for three-four weeks. Took that long, 2 days a week, to get all the wiring done for all my new lighting (halogen headlight upgrade with harness, fog lights, driving lights, clearance lights, backup halogen lights, camper shell lights, center console light on shelf-it kit). Took a lot of manual labor wiring up everything, but everything works as if it came out of the factory that way.

It's funny how the more time you put into your truck the more fun it is to drive, knowing that you did ALL the work yourself without anyone helping you!

Nice freakin truck Dan! I like the engine too.
You've done some good work on that gem. Enjoy the rewards. Happy trails.

That is one nice looking truck. I bet that stereo keeps you from dozing off behind the wheel. Still, looks like you have done a nice job improving the truck. I like the camper shell. And that shelf kit is a good idea too.

When I first bought the truck, one of those mirrors was bent upward, and it was a real pain to get it straight again, but I was able to do it. Don't think I'll ever need another set, as the ones on my truck are perfectly fine (nothing wrong with them).

I got to use my new air horns the other day...someone passed me over a double yellow line (as they always do here in California), so while they passed me, and for 10 seconds after that, I just blasted my air horn. Didn't see them do anything but it satisfied me just blowing the air horn for 10 seconds.

With the clearance lights and air horns it makes me feel like I'm driving a smaller version of a big rig truck, which is kinda nice.

BTW, yeah, the stereo system in my truck is really nice. I like it. Doesn't have too much bass, but just the right amount. I usually find myself playing rock or heavy metal while driving, and it sounds awesome in it. The truck kinda gives the music its own resonance, so it echoes a little throughout the inside of the truck, which is cool.

Looking forward to getting in the new carpet later this Spring. I'm waiting until I have two full days to do that job. I'm a perfectionist when it comes to my own vehicles. I always want to do a perfect job. But then who wouldn't want a perfect job working on their own vehicle?

I wish my truck got more than 10mpg, but with a 390 engine, I don't think there's any improvement on that. I think I get around 12mpg on a long highway trip though, as long as I don't go much above 55mph. It's still fun to drive around though.

Dan
My 352 FE used to also get 9 to 10 MPG I took the rear end gears from 3.50 to 3.0 and was able to jump to around 15 even towing the boat. You will lose a bit of low end but I cruz at 65 with no problem and get better gas mileage. These FE have plenty of bottom end and can take the gear change.
