what would be the best harness to get for a 66 long bed.my dad got his truck not running and now that i moved back to the state i want to help him get it going.the PO hacked the old one up pretty good and there is melted wired under the dash so i just want to replace it but not spend a grand doing it.i have been looking at the summit 18 circuit universal or a uni from painless.
Found Mr. Mustang Inc. reproduces Ford F100 truck pickup wiring harnesses 64-67. The harnesses are pricey, few yrs ago, pd $100 ea. for taillight and headlight harness. The alt. harness ran $50. I was please with the quality, same connectors and wire color codes. It was a matter of unplugging the old and plug in the new. If interested, suggest contact sales rep and either have them fax, or mail price list. Also, suggest inquire return policy in event not satisfied with quality. Have not been able to locate anyone who repro. the dash harness. If recall, member posted a thread indicating the Mustang harness is same or simular, is so, suggest shop around.
Another option is an aftermarket kit, recall other members posting favorable comments.
looks like it might have at least some of what i am looking for.it will be a few months intill i do this becouse it rains her alot.maybe someone else knows another option.
You may want to try and refurbish the existing harness. Did this to the dash harness on the 65 F100, removed all the harness wrap and repaired, replaced the nec. wires and connectors and it cost less than $25. Came across an online automotive wire source where they offered wire in number of different colors, just don't recall company offering dual color wire; i.e., red with white tracer, etc.. There are couple types of wire wrap, I prefer the none adhesive, not as messy and easy to work with, especially if add or remove circuit at later date. Suggest browse internet and see if able to locate fastener, connector, and wire source. If decide to go this route I believe I bookmarked couple of sources and can check.
if i have to pull the wires out from under the dash than i wont put 42 year old wire back in.i would rather go new all the way and never realy have to worry about it again.plus with the universal kit it also has the newer blade type fuse block.it will never be a daily driver so down time is not a issue.
Haywire makes a really sano unit at about half the cost of Painless with comprehensive instructions to adapt to FORD connections on the steering column.
Industrial Chassis uses this harness on all car and truck builds. High quality and good price.
You've a few more options as well. EZ Wiring and 100's of wiring kits on evilbay. The kits on evilbay I am not so sure of since I haven't seen them or heard of one installed. The EZ wiring kits are super simple plus have the wires labeled every 6 inches.
