Ok, I have a rebuilt 400, and I decided to keep the original valve covers. The covers I have now have the hose neck on the back of the right valve cover,(What Does This Do???), and the filler with the PCV valve on the left front. (When sitting in the driver's seat) My question is.. Will I have a problem with the 600 Holley that I plan on getting?? I was told that there is no place for the hose coming from the oil filler cap to hook up to, and what does the other connection do?
Is there an alternative refigerant to R-12. I think that's what my A/C system had in it (1977 F-150). I saw some charge cans that said it replaces R-12, but it was like $20 per can, and I think I would need at least 10 cans.
LAST EDITED ON 24-Jun-01 AT 11:23 PM (EST)[p]r 134 is the new refigrant. a few can and a retro fit kit is all you should need well a can of oil. they coast about $8ea 12oz can you should only need 4can and a 8oz can of oil$10-12 the retrofit kit should be about $40. hope this helps. any parts store and even walmart should have this
Scud, the passenger side valve cover vent is for PCV intake air (filtered). You can get an aftermarket breather cap for this side, or run it to the inside of the air cleaner. I'm not positive about the Holley, but it should have a PCV port for the PCV valve hose to run to.
If it dosen't, you can run another breather cap on the driver's side.

That is what I figured, but I can't remove the fitting on the passenger side. it is built into the valve cover. The oil filler cap (On the Driver's Side) has a hole in it for the PCV valve to go in. I assume this goes to the Carb.
If I remember correctly, the fiting on the passenger side just had a hose that went up to the air filter. There was no PCV valve on it... The only spot for a PCV is the oil filler cap on the driver's side.
LoneRanger and you are exactly right, the hose on the back goes directly to the air cleaner for filtered air, no PCV. Mine does however have a small filter inside the air cleaner where that hose connects.
That small filter is made of a spongey type material that is about 1.5" by 4"
As for a replacement for R12, have you looked at Freeze 12? That's what I use. I can get it for less than $10 a can and it works even better than R12, (gets just a bit colder), and you don't have to switch anything over. Just fill it up.
Right on... Thanks everyone, that's just what i was looking for.. I was confused, since the motor i was looking off (460) of had the PCV on the back...
So, if i wanted to, i could put a filter on the vent on the back???
Scud, yes you can just run a filter there. I have a K&N breather attached to the plastic connector coming out of the valve cover, and it works fine. However, I do have a PCV valve on the other side running straight to the PCV port on the carb.
