My 2000 F150 4x4 is making a ratteling noise above 1500 rpm. I've tried using a stethescope but can't pinpoint the problem. It never makes noise until warm, seems like a bearing except it doesn't rattle under a load at low rpm, for example, powerbraking. The amount of load doesn't affect the severity of the rattle either, it sounds pretty much the same no matter how hard I accelerate, with the exception of it's frequency which increases with rpm. Another strange fact is that it rattles when decelerating such as coasting on the interstate or after accelerating hard and letting off. The oil pressure seems good(according to the gauge anyway), I've unhooked coil wires to try to pinpoint a cylinder to no avail, still sounded the same( throttle held open at 2000 rpm). Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!
could be 1000things, my 03 had an exhaust manifold gasket blow out, sounded like a playing card in the spokes of a bike (pop/ticking) if u crawl under and look with a flashlight you might see excessive blackness around one secluded area where it blows out. when it runs it almost sounded ontop of the motor...
It definitely sounds like something internal, especially when I rev it up in park. I took off the flywheel cover but can't see anything except the starter ring, pried on it with a bar and it seemed tight. I checked for exhaust leaks seems to be okay. It's more of a "rattle" than a tick or click. Thanks for the help, any tips are greatly appreciated!!
