Turbo problem

Hi guys. I have a 2006 F-550 that gets driven often, weights 18,000 at all times so the vanes on the turbo get a good workout. Truck has 33,000 miles. Heres the issue. Lately it seems like the vanes stick once in a while. All the sudden I'll have no boost, truck won't accelerate, and it will stay like that for up to a minute, several gears, invariably on a hill most often. Then I will get a big woosh and the truck will overboost for a second and then settle in normally. Anything easy I can do to fix this, have I got to take it in. I really don't want to take it in since it runs really well in every other way. Thanks.

Adam

i don't know any easy fix's but if it keeps acting like this you should take it in before you hit 36k miles and have to pay the $100 deductible.

that is a good idea. What you're describing could maybe be a malfunctioning vgt solenoid. It is on top of the turbo and is the only sensor on the turbo..maybe pop it off and inspect it. However, if my truck was doing that I would immediately pull my turbo and check for rust. The vanes themselves don't get rusty but where they move up and down can get very rusty.
