Hey guys thanks for all the kind words. I've put 8 more pictures in my gallery under misc pictures. Check them out when you get time. As I said, I am tryin to straighten out some of the previous owner's mistakes on ergonomics of the column and pedals. I'm in the process of rewiring it, but the current owner keeps adding goodies so about the time I get one thing done then I have to back up and change it In the pictures you can see the white pencil marks for the column center, and you can see the white pencil marks of the seams. For some reason the camera made them show up real good? The dash aint perfect, but it aint bad? The current owner wanted 2 cig lighter's in the middle of the dash for cell phone and radar detector.
One question. How will you protect it from the sun? Unless its going to be inside all of the time. Here in El Paso its 105 - 110 in the summer. The sun fades or burns everything. But, an awesome installation. Congratulations.

The guy lives in Ohio, so the heat wont be too much of an issue. Plus it will be in a garage most of it's life. But to give some of you who may not know a heads up. NEVER use Armor All on ANYTHING!! It's JUNK!!! It will dry out the vinyl and KILL it. We've gotten lots of info from different vinyl manufacturers on this subject. There are several good products that are FOR vinyl without petroliam distillates in them. Vinylex is one of them and Meguiers is another one of them.

Really nice job there Terry but I think it's a shame that he wanted those cig lighters right in the middle of that fine work, I would have put them below the dash, but it's his ride so who am I any way.
Terry; so what is that you do? I do that type of work for a living and to keep the sew line straight and work out all the compound curve and make it look clean tells me you have done a great job. I come to the site all the time and am hesitant to put my two cents in but I had to speak out this time. Keep up the great work.

Gear Up
Thank you very much Gear Up!! I really appreciate it. It was very hard, I had to take it apart and reglue it several times to get it to be staight. The camera made the white pencil lines "glow" I cleaned them, but in the picture they show up. It aint perfect, but I've seen alot worse by "professionals" I was kind of proud of it after I got it done. The ends of the dash were taken off and made to be removeable, then covered seperately. I've got some fine tuning to do, but almost finished with that. I made some small welt to go around the dash cluster to help the fit of the cluster.
Thanks again guys!!
Hey Gear Up, who do you work for? What kind of stuff do yall do?

I totally agree, but he is the one paying for it so he gets what he wants. He and I did disagree about a few mods, but he is a great guy, and a great customer so I do what I can to accomidate him.
I don't know what type of glue you used but most of the time the contact cement I use you better have it right the first time otherwise it gets lumpy when taken up and put down a second time. There isn't much forgiveness with ultra-leather. It is quite supple and conforms to what it covers and will amplify the irregular surfaces beneath it. Again nice job but now you better get the butter out to get the ears through the door. I'm not serious but if I didn't say it someone here would.
Hey Gear Up, actually it isnt Ultra Leather, but rather Allante vinyl. I only said Ultra Leather so everyone would know about what I'm talkin about. If you work in a trim shop, you will know what Allante is probably? Anyway it is about twice as thick as Ultra Leather and is forgiving as far as imperfections, but not as stretchy as the Ultra Leather. Yes we do use contact glue, it's Weldwood brand, it is kind of yellow in color. I put on several light coats and let it "tack" up first. The key is to cut the Vinyl stretch the correct way and to get a good fit on the sewing of the pieces.
My wife has to grease my head up to get me in the house sometimes after something like this goes right. Trust me not everything turns out this good every time, but I keep doing it til it does!
TRUXX1956, have worked with leather over 20 years, and I think that looks danged good! is that a blind stitch along centerline of dash? do I dare ask what kind of etching and adhesive you used? what weight is the leather?
