Roller Rockers...
Ok, I'm in kinda a pickle here.I have a 400 and a set of redonde heads. They are completely rebiult, and have been planed about 0.020. Well, we bolted them on and when I tighten down the rocker arms, the valves all open. It appars that whatever they took off the bottom of the head, they didn't take off the tops of the valves, which allows the valves to open about 0.020-0.030.
Now, I saw a post somewhere about some roller rockers that didn't require any machining to the head. I have the engine in the truck, and everything put together, so I don't want to pull it apart.
Is there anything else I need???
Thanks
Riley

It doesn't say that they are adjustable, I'm assuming they are??? They seem a little expensive at $253.
Will I need taller valve covers as well???
Thanks

If your valves stay open after machining the head, you really need shorter push rods.
The M-6564-C351 rockers are not adjustable, but I believe they can be shimmed under the trunion/fulcrum to compensate (some) for head shaving. Be careful you don't overdo it and lose lift. It's better to get the correct length push rods than to shim the fulcrum.
Your price is a good deal, as the retail is about $300.
FRPP claims they are a direct replacement part, but I suspect they may not fit under the stock valve cover. I know they will fit under the cast aluminum M-6582-A341 (black) or M-6582-A342 (polished) valve covers.
Good luck.

To determine either the rod length you need or the correct amount of shimming under the fulcrum, you need to measure the amount the valves are open when the rockers are installed. Just use a dial indicator in the top of the valve spring retainer to measure the valve opening.
Shimming the fulcrum is really no easier than changing out the push rod, since both require removing the rocker. However, if you get a shim kit with various sizes, you can do it all at once, rather than maybe waiting a few days for the correct length push rods to arrive (if they're not in stock locally).
I'd say as long as you don't need to shim more than 0.025" or so, you're not weakening the valve train significantly.
