I'm in process of building a 400 for my cousins '78 1/2 ton, and was wondering...What compression ratio would I get from installing Aussie heads with either Ohio 9:1s or 351C KB 9.5:1s? The block and heads are unmachined.

LAST EDITED ON 03-Jul-01 AT 11:20 PM (EST)[p]The Aussie heads have a +/- 62cc comb. chamber. According to the compression ratio calculator you'd end up with pretty close to 10.6:1 with the Ohio pistons.
Aussie Heads come in to sizes open and closed.
Down here we used to put closed chambers on 351's and open them up for flame travel and air flow. The closed head is from our 302 Cleveland. The open heads flow better and have good flame travel (suprisingly) and would be great on a 400. The aussie heads are best identified by the thick lip under the intake ports.
