ok i know im about to hear the DP tuner sermon again for just sayin that word edge..and i know, i know its better but cant do it right now and i can get a steal of a deal on edge w/ attitude. but what im worried about is doin that without changin out exhaust, intake etc. i have a k&n just filter that came on the truck and according to what some have said i need to get away quick... sooooo im prolly gonna go get the 6637 filter sometime this week to save the turbo.. also can i do the 6637 without messin with the stock airbox... anyway i would apprieciate some thoughts
If you are going with the edge, do exactly what you are saying----> ditch the K&N and go 6637. You can get away without exhaust until funding allows. Watch your pyro and tranny temp functions on the edge. The Edge will wake your truck up a bunch and you will like it....until you ride in a DP equipped truck .
You know my thoughts on the Edge issue. I think I am about the only guy on the forum that says to go with it!
Do the 6637 right away bc if you are spending 175/200 on the tuner you can spend less than 50 on the filter.
I would invest in a John Woods valve body as I have heard bad things about the Edge line pressure stff, but it may be that guy every time
You will be ok w/o other mods. IIRC the Edge has auto backdown if your EGT's get too high. Right there you shouldn't burn anything up w/o an exhaust.
Did you take a look at the 4" downpipe I put in your other thread? That is a good deal! The other thing is, I would work on ditching the muffler in your stock system if that is what you plan on.
yea i think me and you are thinkin on the same page on this deal i could save money to spend money later down the road ha ha i just wanna make shure i won't screw nothin up 10-4.. also the valve body mod? what exactly does this do/prevent thanks for the advice
I say go for it Steve. I've had great luck with my Edge system...first with the Attitude, then later upgraded to the A2 with navigation. For me, it offers more than enough power options...but more importantly it allows me to monitor critical items (EGT, actual speed etc), as well as set the maximum values I want to reach and automatically begin to defuel the rig when I start to exceed my self-imposed maximum's.
Yep, I reccomend it...it may not allow me to outrun the new 'Vette...but it works well for my day-to-day needs.
A valve body mod is actually changing out the accumulator VB in the tranny. They (John Woods or BTS) do some voodoo in there that will keep your tranny happy. (They change springs and port sizes etc) This will make the tranny carry the increased pressure better, have decisive shifts with less slipping, and cooler operating temps.
Coonhunter Joe has a mod where you can do this yourself. You may want to look that up. Another option is to get a TransGo kit and DIY. They are around $100. To get a JWVB or BTS VB you are looking at $225 plus shipping. (That is a major downside Then again a new tranny is 2k!)
LET THE PMS BEGIN!!! Hahahahaaaaaa (that was an evil laugh )
well this is why i love talkin to you guys! you've been there, done it, and made a note! i really appreciate the input guys because im gonna have this truck a Long Time so i wanna do it right and as pocket friendly as i can.. can't wait to know as much as you guys
I have the Edge evo 2. When I first got it I didnt have any mods on my truck. I thought it was the best stuff since Mac and Cheese, now after finding out about all these forums and about the DP tuners I'm going to be selling my Edge and getting gauges and a DP. When the funds allow.
