Emergency Brakes

How do I go about changing the emergency brakes on my 85 3/4 ton? I have been told you need to take the axles out to do so...IS that right? The cables on there now are all busted up and need to come off....

You have to take the drums off to replace the parking brake cables. Some or most of the Dana rearends are the ones you have to pull the axles to get the drums off. If you have a Ford rearend, then the drum should come off without pulling the axles.
