I've done a couple more hours of research on this site and have yet to comeup with the answer(or what I think it should be).
I changed my fuel filter today and yes I knew of the special tool. The front line or engine side was the quick disconnect that the tool was needed for.
However the rear or tank line was very different from what is explained here. I thought it most resembled the fuel line on a f-150 same year as mine.
The thing is, it was a pull off felt as if i was removing a rubber line that had been slipped over a steel line by about 2 inchs. When I looked inside there was a tiny lip(maybe rubber) and that was all that was holding it on. I still can't figure out what was holding it on or is still holding it.
anyone seen something like I'm describing?
please let me know I'm afraid of the thing falling off whilst driving.
The front(engine) side does have the metal bell looking clip but the rear doesn't. I wasn't able to see capchas post with pictures about his 05 and newer truck but I think it sounds like I have one of those clips in the back. I checked his gallery and it looks like nothing is posted anymore. Do you know if there is a tech article related to the 05 and newer? Yes my truck was rolled over 6 times and had some work done to it. clean as a whistle now and drives straight and true down the road. I'm thinking maybe someone replaced the rear fuel line with a 05 or up one?
So...are you supposed to use the tool on the rear side of the filter as well? Mine has the clip on the front and on the rear it looks like there is a red o ring that holds on the rear.
No the tool doesn't work on the rear one. It does look like its just a simple blue O-ring. I just wasn't sure if thats what its supposed to be. just seems like it wouldn't be able to hold that much pressure
Yeah I can agree with you there it was a MAJOR pain gettin it out of that holder. just not enough room to get in there with a screwdriver. I wish the rear clip was metal too. It makes for a super quick change out once you have the tool. (that is if you change it regularly)
