Welding....

I've built a lot of stuff and paid a fair amount of dues... but today I welded up a Swing-Set for my Grandaughter.... and her squeels gave me more joy than than any Hot Rod I've ever built.

Grandbabies are a great gift, and Grandpa can fix anything. Just two more of life's truths.

I hear ya, E-Dawg!

Great story. You are a first class grampa AND great grampa! How did you manage that? Our ages are close and my oldest, my grand daughter, is just 4. They are going to be here this weekend! A trip to the childrens museum Saturday.

I took a look at your gallery. The 350 TPI/700R4 should be a great combination. What is your rear end ratio? Have you driven it enough to get a handle on fuel mileage? I am setting Willard my 49 up with a carburated 350 330hp crate motor (building it myself)/ 700R4 and 3.70 9 inch rear. You should do better on mileage with the TPI.

Willard, well i guess we just got started early, grand son is 24 and he started early also, have grandson 16, grandaughter 16, grandaughter 14 and losta grandaughter that would be 14 and grandson that would be 12 and that changes every aspect of your life. AS for the ratio, i don't really know, what ever is norm for 93 Z28 camaro, i would assume 355--370 or so, ran about 1500 miles this summer and around 18 or so mpg but i just can't resist dropping the hammer every once in a while. I just dropped it out of the Z28 and stuck it in the 51, well I did put in a new set of plugs but haven't done anything else but the way it performs i'm not going to do anything, really pleased, Garry

Homade, I suspect based on goggling a few sites, that if your donor was a stock Z28 automatic it got a 3.23 rear in 1993. The 6 speed manuals were 3.42 I think (I am not a Chxxy guy). The reason that I am interested is that I have yet to rebuild my 9 inch. I have 3.70 gears right now and have thought about going a bit lower even though I will run the 700R4. With the crate motor they dyno out at about 340hp and 390 ft lbs. Being just about your age getting on it will be only an occasional thing but I would like better fuel economy since I want to drive Willard a lot (I did when I ran it with the Buick nailhead). I am running 265 70 15 rear tires that are 29.6 inches tall as I remember. What are you running for tires and would you want a different rear end ratio if it was only going to cost a $100? I apologize for the questions but there are pretty good similarities in our trucks/drive trains and I am just getting ready to rebuild my 9 inch (which is a tracloc).

I noticed that you like living on the water. So do I although I suspect that my water is a little saltier than yours.

49willard, i wouldn't change my ratio for nothing, i'm running 285/16" tires and crusies at 75/80,not running a tach yet but engine not laboring, just loafing at that speed. When you want to sho-off it'll smoke the big rubber as long as you want to stay in it. I'm real pleased with mpg so if it's 323's then thats a great gear as my tires are about 29.5" as well. yea i live on the back water off the ohio river so i can walk to my dock and go out to river and go anywhere from pittsburg to the gulf, if i had a good enough boat and a pocket full of money for fuel.
