I'm thinking about putting a home made grille guard on my '94 F-150 that would withstand impact from a large deer or livestock. I've already made some brackets to weld to the front of the frame tubes so I have something solid to bolt it and the stock bumper to. I was just wondering If the accordion portion of the frame would be strong enough for such an impact or do I have to reinforce it somehow? Im trying to make it as strong and as light as possible(is that possible?) since is just a half ton w/ a 4.9.
Welcome to the site. You will find some great people here and we all like to have fun
If you have the telescoping bumper mounts, you might want to craft some mounts that go back to the frame a ways for a solid connection. I know those colapsable mounts are only good for 5-10 MPH so a solid mount would be wise.
On a side note, I have always wanted to mount a train cow catcher on the front of mine but I do not think the local constable would be impressed
Yeah, I found some nice 3" by 4" angle iron in the scrap pile that will work nicely I think if I weld em to the inside of the frame rails. Thanks for replies!
