I am new at this too Tom. But I have run some kitchen batches with WVO that has come from different uses so I could encounter some mistakes and learn how to recover from them. I emulsified one batch by shaking it too much when washing it, but learned that letting it sit a few days allowed it to settle out.
It is my understanding that the 3/27 test is for the fuel after the process is complete.
I visited a guy last week that has a large processor capable of making 200 gallon batches and he has steel reactor tanks. He had not run any batches for a month or so as he was doing some remodeling, so the inside of the tanks had rusted some. His fuel had a very dark color too, but it was fine.
Once you get up and running I suggest doing some research on dry washing with Amberlite. It costs a few cents per gallon, but you eliminate using water to wash and drying.
