Driveshaft Question

My double cardan joint on the rear driveshaft is shot.
I was wondering if it would be cheaper and easier to install a whole new driveshaft than replace the worn out joint.
If a new driveshaft is the best option, would a standard size one fit my truck with 6'' suspension and 3'' body lift?
also how would I measure if it isn't

Complete driveshafts are pretty expensive. Replacing a couple of joints in a double cardan joint is much more cost effective.
I would replace all three joints and never look back. Replacing the three joints will still be less than having a new shaft built.
Is the old shaft too short or something? If yes, then this would be a good reason to have a new shaft made, but if it works fine, and has not come apart, then re-building your exesting shaft sounds like a much better idea.

I bought the truck used, so I'm not sure that the shaft is the original
broncograveyard.com has complete shafts for around $300, which is what i figure i'd spend if I paid someone else to fix the joints.

You could have a driveshaft made with a actual cv joint in itif you had a problem
with your angles and travel eating up the DC joints. There is a new type of joint
out and it is a mix of Dc and cv joint with out the parisitic loss of the extra parts
inside the cv and without the jerkyness of running a dc at high angles it's the thompson joint http://cvcoupling.com/ don't know if they are worth a hoot. I want
to see them on the trail first behind 500hp and full of mud before I replace my Dc.

I've heard of those, but i'm trying to keep it simple and cheap and quick, and so don't want to go through the trouble of trying to get one of those
plus i don't know where to even get one

Is the slip joint on the drive shaft that is on there opened way up (Ie see lots of spline) If it is and when you pull it off the Ds comes apart after a inch then you
need a new longer DS. IF it seems pretty sane length then it may be a altered
shaft and I would just rebuild the stock one since it is a proven unit and if it didn't
break yet then it is a good chance that you won't have to worry about it in the
future. The CV joints on a rear driveshaft application last along time since they
only deal with up and down unlike when in a car they deal with Up down and left
and right.
