Springs go sproing!

After reading 435 posts, I've learned that the 2004 PS SD's seem to be under-designed when it comes to the front leaf springs. I have a 3" lift in the front but the springs are bent over and and have negative arch now. I need to replace them but I got conflicting stories on the ride of the X springs. Three questions: How do the X springs ride and where should I buy them? Ford or aftermarket. How hard are they to install?
Thanks!

I just installed X springs in my 2001. Not that bad a job overall. Easier than ball joints. I did need to use some heavy ratchet straps to pull things together, that made the job easier. As for ride, my "new" springs have about 50,000 miles on them. It is much stiffer than my U springs, but not really uncomfortable. I knew it would be stiffer, and expected it. There are some great writeups around on changing them, I will see if I can find them.

Thanks. I'm contemplating letting the dealer or a spring shop install them if the job is too big.

Here is the writeup I used. It is from an Ex, but basically the same. The only thing I did differently was to leave the bottom of the shocks connected, and use a ratchet strap to pull up on the shock, bringing the bracket with it, and pulling it out of the way.

when I got my u-bolts, they gave me square ones at the spring shop, and I had to take them back and get the proper ones made. I also completely removed the bumper for easier access.

Nice write up! I have the Vcode springs right now but they are negative arching. The truck only has 50,000 miles on it so I'm looking to get the Xcode springs. I don't want the same thing to happen again.
