stumped

Ok I am doing the DB swap on my 66 F100. I am using my 66 IB and 72 spindles. I got new kingpins and had the bushing pressed in and remied. Started putting them together and here in lies the problem. I put the pins in and line up the center bolt hole IB and grove in the pin and there two long out the top turn them around and there two long out the bottom. I checked the new pin with the old and they are the same. The distance from the top of the boss to the bottom is 7" on the spindle and the pin is 6 5/16" off set for the grove is the same for the old and new. Whats different here.

You have to buy the king pins to match the I-beams that you are using, and if
you did buy them to fit the 66, then they gave you the wrong ones, or they
were packaged wrong. The slot in them vary.

P.S. This is wally that you traded the weld wheels with! Hope your doing good.

King Pins

King Pins...they may all look the same, but...

1965/72 F100 KING PIN KITS

1965 F100's use one type: C5TZ-3111-A

1966/70 F100's use another: C8TZ-3111-A

Some 1971/72 F100's use C8TZ-3111-A, some use D2TZ-3111-A

Some 1965/72 F250's use the same kits the F100's use, some don't.

How does one know which is correct?

To get the correct King Pin or King Pin Kit, the casting numbers off the spindle or axle must be known.

The same info is also required for 1973/79's.

CAVEAT EMPTOR: 30 + years later, due to parts swapping, accidents, whatever...there may be a spindle or axle from a 1972 F100 on one side, a 1965 F100 on the other.

Thanks ND for the reply and help. I found my problem. The king pins I had which were from NPD were listed for 66-74 well I stopped by DC today and took a look at the pins they sell which are listed for 66-71 and they matched what I had so I ask to see the pins for a 65 and bingo they were what I needed. I dont know if Ford did it or someone else did it but I have a 66 with 65 IB under it. If I had to guess (not run the VIN) I would say that the truck is an early run for the 66 and Ford had some 65 IB left over. At any rate problem is solved now on to the next one.

LOL..if I lived near DC, I'd be flat broke!

I was there in 2004, stopped by while in NC for a car meet held in Charlotte, and thought I'd buy a coupla parts for my '63 Galaxies.

Once I saw all those display cases full of NOS parts, I knew I had found Ford parts heaven.

I bought more than a coupla parts, and left there several grand lighter.

I've been saving up. I'll be stopping by again in May, while enroute to the Nats held in Knoxville.

1966 F Series truck serial number range (the last 6 digits of the VIN).

732,001 thru 914,000.
