351M or 400?

LAST EDITED ON 27-Jun-01 AT 03:18 PM (EST)[p]I know this probably gets asked all the time. How do I tell if I have a 351M or a 400. I just bought it and I need to buy some bearings for it and I don't want to get the wrong ones. The block has D7TE-A-2-B cast in it.

LAST EDITED ON 27-Jun-01 AT 03:39 PM (EST)[p]They're the same bearings. Main and rod journal diameters are identical on both engines, only the stroke is different. You have a 77 (or later) engine so just order the bearings for that year and you should be good to go.

BTW as long as you have the pan off and can see the casting # on the crank look for either a 1K for the 351M or 5M, 5MA or 5MAB for the 400.
