Time for motor mods

Well I think its time for motor mods on my 302 EFI. I think im going to sell the nitrous due to lack of knowledge about it and not wanting to blow my motor. Soooo I want some other go fast goodies. What would be recommend for a 302 EFI?
I would love a big cam but im not 100% sure im comfortable tearing into my motor. I have torn apart a few carb v8 motors and plenty of 4 wheeler and dirtbike motors but never an EFI.
What should I look into for some more power?
Im thinking longtube headers.. Any opinions on brands? ect..
What would be a nice cam if I do look more into tearing apart my motor? I love rough idles and dont care what rpms range. Would I need to upgrade the lifters, rockers or anything else?

Any other parts I should look into?

Thanks alot

You have to be careful doing anything with your efi engine. I am not up on it too much, but I believe it's the same problem early efi mustang guys have. Your truck is a speed density truck, meaning it looks at the map sensor and a few other sensors, and then makes a assumption of how much air is going into the engine. It can make this accurate assumption, because the factory tuned the engine in stock form. If you make very many modifications, especially a wilder cam, and the computer's assumptions are now off, and then engine will not run correctly.

I would go into the later 87-up forum, where there are a lot more fuel injected trucks, and see what they are doing up there. I seem to remember some guys converting their trucks to mass-air like some of the mustang people, and then being able to modify their fuel injected engines, because the mass-air measures the amount of air going in the engine directly, with no assumptions.

Be warned also, most mods raise the rpm's, so you might also have to use a stall convertor and or a higher number in the rear gears.
