Driveshaft Vibration
This is more of a curiosity for me than anything. I removed the driveshaft on an 85 4.9L/SROD/8.8 to put new u-joints on it. It was re-installed and indexed EXACTLY like it was when it was removed. In other words, its orientation to the transmission and rear axle yoke is exactly like it was before I removed it. Now, it vibrates terribly at anything over 45MPH. It buzzed a little at 60MPH or so before the u-joints were replaced, but I attribute that to the one little rusty stump on one end of the front trunnion of the old joint. That's why I replaced them. The only thing that has changed is the caps and trunnions that comprise a u-joint. Ergo, I'm curious how this factor alone could introduce such a significant vibration. 45 minutes of searching and I haven't seen this topic discussed.
