I have a 01 crew and want to know what to put on the plastic piece that goes around the back window? I bought the truck in January and the piece look good not faded. Now after a several washes it is starting to look faded. I dont know what the car lot put on it but I would like to have some it has lasted a look time.
If it's like my truck, it's rubber and it's oxidizing. I love Mother's products and am a member of their forum to, the grey and the cancer looking stuff is the rubber breaking down. You need a good preservative, Armoral/son of a gun don't do it, they have alcohol that dries out rubber/vinyl. To get it nice and black, I'd recommend Mother's protectant and Back to Black. Wipe on the protectant with a rag and work it in with a tooth brush, then cover it over with the back to black.
Then once or twice a day until it's the black you like, wipe it down with protectant. It works like a champ, I use this process around all of my windows.
The car lot used silicone spray. Look it up online and get yourself some. I used to detail cars and we used the silicone spray for all vehicle plastics. It will however over time put a nice film on your windsheild if you use it on your dash. But a good window product with amonia in it will take that off easy.
