I hope I am using the format properly. I am new to the group today. I have an 03EX 4x4 6.0D and have changed the exhaust and air intake and added an edge with attitude performamce module.
Much to my dismay, I have been stricken with problems, It has left me stranded in a car wash twice, come to find that the PCM does not take ANY moisture well. This exposed unit seems to get damp and began cooking the cam shaft position sensor. The second time, I decided to have the recall work done which was upgrading the programming. When I did that my edge was throwing security codes that wouldn't allow the truck to start. This also was very bad. According to the Tech and the Oasis report the truck has not been plagued in it's former life.
I hate to sacrifice the 23mpg and increased power I was enjoying but need the thing to run. I have been advised by Ford not to do anything to the 03 6.0D. For what it's worth mine was made in Jan of 03. I have heard the the late 02 engines had even more difficulties.
Just wanted throw this out to see if I could get some suggestions or confirmation to leave it alone.
Just thought I'd comment, though I know nothing about the Edge. I have an '03 6.0D built in January. Its a 2wd and I first added the Bullydog. I had problems at first, but I think it turned out to be the monitor I was trying to connect. I had to get the PCM replaced, though I was able to get it covered under warranty. I have since left the monitor off and just use the downloader to change programs when needed. I have also done the 4" mbrp cat back and volant intake, accufab elbow and that zoodad mod. I average 17 city 24 hwy. Otherwise, I have had no engine problems with mine. Maybe you should try something other than the Edge. Like I said, I know nothing about the Edge, but figured I'd just throw you a comment on my experience with my truck.
No i have not had the head gasket problem, but have been cautioned on more than on occasion to pay close attention to the EGT, and don't beat the crap out of it. The tech said I would be loooking in the 8K-9K range to fix.
He also stated that international changed gasket material after the earlier 6.0 were made. Not sure if that is true or not.
Now you have me worried. I am having my exhaust, intake and chip installed tomorrow!!! I will keep everyone posted on any problems that I run into!! Fingers crossed
What chip, intake and exhaust are u doin? Also i like the 6.0 but thats what worries me. I was thinking about getting a pickup. I want it to be diesel and i like the 6.0 alot. Let me kno how it goes islander.
I blew mine and it was covered under the 100,000mile warenty by like 100 miles. Dealer wasn't very happy it was that close. They told me it would cost around 6-7,000 to get it fixed. Not sure why its so much but it is. My advice is if you have to do it get the after market stud kit from ARP and have them install it instead of the stock ones that stretch. By the way for you chip guys. I blew mine without a chip installed, Totally stock. So watch what your doing when you are running a chip and be very careful.
i'll be getting studs put in soon..i just can't decide whether to just pull the motor or lift the body...it's a decent project either way...the problem is in getting the rearmost studs installed...the whole job on an X should be about $2000-$2500 in labor plus parts..shop around and you can find a better deal..
i ran an Edge juice w/ Attitude for quite awhile...the lower settings are fine..once you get into 4 or 5 it gets riskier...they make good power...the early models were really bad for transmissions...
putting in studs and a couple other mods make the 6.0l a VERY dependable motor...

If you have gauges and you watch every thing you should be fine but if you don't have gauges Get some soon.
