I am very excited about taking on my first rebuild and would like some guidance as to how to go about it. I'd like to improve this M engines performance while maintaining reliability and economy as much as possible. Particular books? Basic components needed etc.

Yeah it was written by our very own Dave Resch aka bubbaF250. Definitely a must read especially if you're new to the rebuilding process. Covers everything...removal, disassembly, rebuild, reinstallation and basic tuning.
