My 99 psd has a loud hissing sound that comes and goes while driving. I know that for cold weather start up, the backpressure sensor forces air back into the motor, hence creating a loud hissing sound. However, my truck has been doing it while driving. I have replaced the EBV sensor and have cleaned the tube. I let the truck warm up and i drive down the street and the loud hiss returns. THe hiss is clearly the wastegate opening up. i have also inspected the turbo housin and wheel. There seems to be no problems. I have been driving the truck dead cold lately and the hissing hasn't come on as often. Thinking of installing an EBV bypass sensor. Anyone ever experience this problem? Its killing my mpgs. Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.....Only mods to truck are intake and exhaust
I have a hissing going on with mine too. My downpipe clamp and clamp from the turbo to the Y are leaking/broken. I need new clamps, but you can try tightining all your IC boots and the othe clamps.
<TABLE><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top width="100%">you can unplug the EBPV by un pluging it just under the turbo..above the blue dot in this pic below..there is a wire locking clip on the plug..flip it back and pull on the plug..you will not get a SES light...but you will get a code stored in the PCM...there is a eliminator for this plug if you want it... it plugs into the harness end..
disables the exhaust back pressure valve from closing on cold starts..i have a 5" staight pipe exhaust...sounds like a jet taking off when the EBPV is closed and high idle kicks in....its job is to hold back pressure making the motor work harder and warm up faster..
I wandered about that, my truck seems to be developing that noise, they described earlier, might be the clamps though, I will have to check. I have a straight flow 4" all the way back. The noise goes away when I throttle up, comes back when I leave off the pedal. Turbo sounds great! Any ideas?
