Yesterday, I got in to my truck and once the truck's motor was running, I could not get the truck out of park (automatic). I had to force the the truck into drive which took some time and was worried I was going to break something.
Has anyone ever had this problem? Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Not knowing anything about the brake-interlock system, I'd still suspect that the problem was in there. Yes, you were stepping on the brake, but maybe the interlock system didn't detect it?
