Yesterday, I got in to my truck and once the truck's motor was running, I could not get the truck out of park (automatic). I had to force the the truck into drive which took some time and was worried I was going to break something.

Has anyone ever had this problem? Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Try stepping on the brake before shifting.

Unfortunately, that was not the problem. I purchased my truck in 1997 and this was the first time this has ever occurred.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 27-Nov-01 AT 04:20 PM (EST)]Bummer. Thought I'd try the obvious answer first.

Not knowing anything about the brake-interlock system, I'd still suspect that the problem was in there. Yes, you were stepping on the brake, but maybe the interlock system didn't detect it?
