I am happy with the power improvements I have attained with the ram air, soup bowl cut out, headers and 4 inch exhaust. I believe if you were to fabricate exhaust pipes of 3" directly out of the stock headers, then to a 4" system, see through muffler as Dave said, you will get enough air flow to safely turn up the fuel. I have a pyro on mine, and pulling 7000 lbs extra up some long long mountain passes, I get up to 1150 on the EGT, and am still rolling along at an acceptable speed in 3rd gear, 2500 rpm.

I have a cowl induction hood which works great but is extremely noisy dual 3 inch exhaust into an x pipe then into 5 inch stacks no mufflers pump turned up 2 flats and 410 gears in my 93 n/a and this thing will pull my enclosed trailer at 11000 lbs plus up the steepest mountain in my area of PA like a runaway freight train gotta keep an eye on the egt's though they get a little carried away if I don't take my foot out of her. Anyway the point i'm getting at is that these engines wll pull just fine or at least acceptable without a turbo. I also have a 93 with the banks turbo kit and similar mods and it pulls a little better but not much just uses a little less fuel doing it.
