91 Ranger Transmission Problem???

Unhappy 91 Ranger Transmission Problem???

Hello just joined the club recently and just picked up my first ranger. 91 4cyl. 2wd xlt with the 8ft bed 102k mi for just $1400. Truck is in really decent shape. No major leaks runs smooth and quiet and overall is very solid. My question is....Im having problems with my parking brake sticking so when I parked the ranger today it was on a hill so I put the manual transmission in 1st to keep it from rolling and i noticed while sitting in there that every couple of minutes the truck would roll forward a slight bit than stop. Now if the engine is off and the transmission in 1st gear what would allow it to that. It would lurch forward maybe a couple of inches or so than stop. It did that a few times every couple of minutes. Anybody have an idea of what that could be? Is it a problem to worry about? Any help would be appreciated.

With a standard transmission if you park on a hill and do not use the parking brake. You are useing the engine's compression to hold the truck. Now being it's a 91 and a 4cyl there is not alot of comression to hold 3,000lb truck on a hill.

Best thing is to get the parking brake fixed.

Or use a wheel chock to help hold it until you do.

Well you are on a hill and you have a 4cyl truck. This seems normal to me since its easy to roll this truck. This isn't something to worry about its just the weight of the truck moving from being on the incline. Replace the parking/emergancy brake cable and shoes and it should be good so you can set the brake.

Thanks for all your help guys. I thought that it was the weight of the truck turning the motor but I wasn't sure. Happy to here that it isn't transmission problems. Thanks again!
